West Austin is the established part of the city and it looks it. Clarksville and Tarrytown are narrow streets, older houses and gardens that have been growing for decades. Nothing about it is new.
West 6th is the edge of it, and that is where the restaurants and bars are. Past that the city turns residential quickly, then hilly, and then you are at the lake without having driven far.
Downtown is a few minutes east, which makes this the area that is closest to everything while feeling furthest from it.
