North & Central Austin

Hyde Park porches, the UT campus, and downtown a few minutes south.

Central Austin is the older part of the city and it looks it. Hyde Park is bungalows and deep shade and a corner store that has been there forever. Mueller is newer and planned, with a lake and a lot of families.

The university sits between them, which means the area empties and fills with the academic year, and means good coffee and cheap food at most hours. Game weekends are their own thing entirely.

It is the easiest area to get anywhere from. Downtown is south, the airport is a straight run, and nothing in the city is far.

Good for: Families, longer stays, campus visits, and anyone who wants quiet without being far out.
Getting around: A short drive to downtown and to campus. Easy parking. Buses run down Guadalupe and Lamar.
